How to Create a Gallery Wall

We have a wall at the end of the hallway, right next to the entryway, that has always felt bare to me. Because there is a bench in the entryway to the left of this space, putting a piece of furniture there felt cluttered so I knew that this space needed something on the wall. I’ve had some artwork I’ve made and collected over the years that’s been sitting in a box and I knew this would be the perfect place to display it.

How I Did It

  1. Collect Frames
The beauty of a gallery wall is that you don’t need to be picky! All of my frames came as gifts or free from people who were getting rid of frames. I used a mixture of black and various shades of gold.

  2. Cut Papers the Size of Each Frame
I just placed each frame face down on a piece of paper, traced around it, and then cut it out.

  3. Use Tape to Arrange Papers on the Wall
I like to arrange my frames on the ground in front of the wall and then when I feel like an arrangement might work I use my paper frames to tape it on the wall. Look at your arrangments from different angles. I like to try standing back, standing close, standing to the side, and taking a photo. Continue rearranging until you are happy with the arrangement.

I love how my gallery wall turned out! It makes me happy to see it every time I walk down my hallway. I love how it ties into the other black and brass around the room.

Would you try making a gallery wall?
