Before and After: Our Front Entry

Our house didn’t have much of an entryway. You just kind of entered into a larger section of a hallway between the great room and bedrooms. This meant that you could see pretty much straight into the kitchen when you enter the house. As much as I’d like to believe I keep my kitchen spotless, the reality is that most of the time it’s not ready for guests. So a little more entryway would be nice. We didn’t want to do any renovations that required changing the roofline for two reasons: those types of renovations get much more expensive since you are messing with the architecture of the house and we have a new roof so we didn’t want to do any replacing anytime soon. We had the idea to use some of our porch for an entryway since it was already covered and would require us to touch any load-bearing walls. Plus we always felt like our porch wasn’t really usable space and was more of a place of collecting cobwebs than anything else.

This addition added 40 square feet.
